Were they stereotypes to begin with? Can we live without some tried and true objects? Especially with nostalgia there is a humor about them, isn't there? And how long do stereotypes last? A provocative assignment.
I never said stereotypes were a bad or good thing. In fact, they can be a comforting abstraction of reality. I'm not really sure how they came about, but it might be worth looking into. Next semester I am taking a class called, Anthropology of American Life; perhaps some of those answers will be revealed to me next semester.
